How Insulated Glazing units are made

Insulated or double-pane glass comes in units and is two pieces of glass that are separated by a spacer. The spacer borders the perimeter of the window, leaving about a half an inch for window butyl to be used to seal the window. The dry air that rests between the two pieces of glass insulates the glass to make it more energy efficient.

 

Free Fall Glass

The benefits of having Free Fall Racks as opposed to having to crane or manually lift different types of glass onto the cutting table is first and foremost the safety, because you reduce the movement of glass through your factory and contain it to one area. When using more than one free fall rack multiple sheet sizes or thicknesses may be stored, allowing for more increased flexibility and use of the free fall table.

 

Circular cutting process

Draw a circle pattern on paper by using a compass or tracing a circular object. Trace right around your pattern, using a glass cutter to score a circle into the glass. Score several gently curving lines connecting portions of the circle to the edges of your glass sheet. Use the running pliers to squeeze the edge of the glass where one of these score lines ends. Clean up the glass circle, removing the paper and rubber cement and grinding the cut edges smooth if you like.

 

How to cut a glass by hand

Lay down the sheet of glass and measure the size you want to cut. Score the glass by pushing the glass cutter firmly down and away from yourself along the marked edge. Hold the glass in one hand and place your pliers on the opposite side of the scratch. Twist the pliers slightly away from the crack, and the glass should crack easily along the scratch. Crack larger scratches by laying the scratched edge along the edge of a table and push down firmly and quickly. Cut round circles by scratching a circle in the glass by tracing with a carbide edge attached.

 

Cutting laminated glass

Laminated glass usually has two or more outer pieces of glass bonded together through high heat and pressure, with one or more layers of plastic in-between. Laminated glass looks like normal glass, and is also known as safety glass. Due to the inner layer, cutting laminated glass is different from cutting regular glass, unless using specialized tools.

 

Circular and speed cutter

Circular Cutter is a brass rod calibrated to score circles with diameters from 3" to a full 70" capacity. Powerful suction cup holds center while cutter head scribes the circle. Freewheeling ball on handle allows positive pressure to make a perfect score. Speed Cutter is a precision tool constructed of lightweight anodized extruded aluminum, which rides on adjustable rollers. Speed Cutter is placed on any straight edge of your glass, and then simply run across your glass, making the score.

 

How is tempered safety glass made

Tempered glass is made using high heat with a special cooling process to strengthen the glass. Tempered glass is about five times stronger than normal glass, is heat-resistant and breaks into many small fragments. Used in most windows, especially in public buildings, oven windows, side and rear car windows, and glass cookware.

 

Santelli tempered glass

Tempered glass uses controlled heat treatments to make it stronger compared with normal glass. Withstand approximately 6,000 psi and is also more brittle and breaks into small, dull pieces, making it safer than regular glass. Tempered glass has a variety of common applications such as car windows, glass furniture and cookware.

 

Butyl sealing

Thermal pane windows consist of two panes of glass that contain an insulating cushion of air sealed between them. The butyl mastic glazing that is used to seal the windows can deteriorate over time. A sign of failed glazing is moisture condensation or fog forming on the insides of the window. Moisture build up encourages mold growth.

Framing

Video shows the aluminium pieces that make the edge of the frame as well as the plastic corner pieces that slide into the aluminium edge pieces to make the frame. You will need to cut the aluminium edge pieces to the proper length to fit your window, and then assemble the frames using the plastic corner pieces.

 

Air lifter

Vacuum, or the presence of lower than ambient air pressure, creates a powerful holding force against porous or nonporous surfaces. The larger the contact area and the greater the vacuum pressure, the higher the holding force. Properly designed vacuum tools can be used to lift or hold many tons. Vacuum is powerful when correctly applied.

 

Air knife

Air Knife Systems utilize compressed air for industrial applications that include drying, removing excess oils and liquids, dust blow off, and cooling. An air knife is effective and efficient. The laminar (uniform) sheet of air is projected along the entire length of the air knife to provide an air flow that covers the entire surface of the product.
